	I Instructions for Winterising your Pool Winterising Outdoor Pools 1. Backwash the filter and clean the strainer. 2. Check the pH and correct to between 7.2 and 7.6 using pH minus (sodium bisulphate) to lower the pH, or pH plus (sodium carbonate) to increase the pH. 3. Boost the chlorine level with calcium hypochlorite granules (often known as "SHOCK" or unstabilised chlorine) to kill any algae that may be present. Dose 1kg per 10,000gallon (45m3 ) of water. For large quantities mix 5 scoops at a time with 10 litres of warm water in a plastic bucket. Stir carefully and add to the pool. 4. Add Winterising Algaecide. This product is designed to inhibit algae growth. Dose 2.5 litres per 10,000 gallons/45m3 of pool water. 5. Turn on the circulation to disperse the solution throughout the pool water for a period of about 24hrs. 6. Reduce the water level so that it is below the skimmers. Do not lower the level too much especially if the water table is high as this could cause structural damage to the pool shell. 7. Drain the water from the pump(s), filter(s) heater and pipework, protecting any exposed metal surfaces (this can be done with grease). 8. Leave any valves above the water level open. Any below should be closed and protected against any frost damage. 9. Switch off the electricity supply to the system. 10. Cover the pool with a Covers4pools winter debris pool cover. 11. Check the appearance of the water, and the free chlorine/pH levels occasionally during the winter (more often if the weather is mild).
